The Best Big Waves

K59

Punta Roca

Las Flores

K59, La Libertad

K59 is named for the 59 kilometer mark on the highway in La Libertad, and is one of the premier surf spots in the country of El Salvador. It’s not really beginner friendly, but intermediate and advanced surfers will have a lot of fun here. The wave breaks right from the point with southern swells. SW swells can bring some smaller waves more suited for intermediates. The only thing to consider is the rocky bottom!

la libertad swell height

Punta Roca, La Libertad

Punta Roca is a crazy long right. In ideal conditions, it can break for over a kilometer! Generally around the 5 foot mark, it can really pump when a strong southern ground swell comes in. Coupled with some offshore wind from the north or northeast, this wave can grow quite a bit. There is a rocky bottom, and it is quite shallow in some points, so be sure to keep that in mind if you end up taking on these waves.

la libertad surf

Las Flores, Oriente

One of our personal favorites in El Salvador. A lot less crowded in general than the other waves on this list, Las Flores is located east of La Libertad in Oriente. It can create a 500m long ride, and often has just buttery smooth waves. With no crowds, solid consistency, and relative proximity to other surf spots, this is a must-see for any intermediate or advanced surfers.
