Best Advanced Waves in Panama
Panama is home to some amazing and relatively unknown surf, including some solid advanced waves.
The Best Big Waves
Punta Burica
Santa Catalina
Punta Burica
Punta Burica is probably the best wave in Panama for advanced surfers in our opinion. It’s fairly close both in distance and quality to Pavones in Costa Rica. This wave is a little more finicky than Pavones, as any onshore wind just absolutely destroys it. However, during the rainy season with offshore wind it absolutely fires. Waves can go far past OH to DOH on the right days.
Santa Catalina
Santa Catalina is home to several different breaks. La Punta is a well-known right that can get hollow, is super consistent, and offers a long ride. Playa Morrillo across the channel is a beautiful A-frame without surfers in the lineup. Punta Brava and Punta Roca are two more advanced waves that are a bit dangerous with the rocky shallow reef but offer some solidly big waves.
