11 Things to Do in Cabo with Kids

We always see lists of things to do in different places and although they are great, we have to weed through to figure out what to do with our kids. Although I could spend every moment in the water surfing when I go somewhere, the rest of the family needs stuff to do! So, as regular visitors to Los Cabos, we thought we’d offer a few of our favorite things to do with kids while in town!

Surf Lessons

We’re a surf site, we have to start here! Get the kids on some boards! There are a lot of surf schools and surf lessons in Cabo, especially for the whole family. You can visit our Surf Guide for Cabo for more info. For what it’s worth, we had our kids in surf lessons with professionals at 3 and 5 years old. Especially if your kids are comfortable in the water, Cabo is a great place to take your first lesson!

Eat at Flora Farms

Flora Farms is a restaurant located just outside San José del Cabo. It’s a bit of a drive from the resort area, but a great place for kids. They have delicious local food, microbrews for adults, and tons of space for the kids to explore. Mexico is generally very kid-friendly when it comes to restaurants, but Flora Farms is more of a whole experience than just a restaurant.

The Museum of Natural History

The Museo de Historia Natural is relatively small, but super fun. They have special sections on the sea and biodiversity that are especially interesting given the location of Cabo. There’s also of course a whole bunch of stuff about dinosaurs, and they have skeletons of many mammals and reptiles on site. It costs around $2 a person, and $1 for kids.

Snorkel in Chileno Bay

Chileno Bay is a great place to snorkel, especially with kids. The waters are super calm in this protected little bay. It’s a Blue Flag beach, meaning they meet standards in environmental management and safety. There are a ton of fish as well as a few turtles and rays to be seen. Unlike many public beaches, you’ll find restrooms and showers as well!

San José Art Walk

Although it can be good as a couple or solo, the art walk is something you might do with kids. You’ll find streets full of local art, vendors selling food and artesan goods, and beautiful lights and decorations. Our young kids really love the art walk. When we were last there, we were told it runs from November to June. That was a year ago, and things may have changed. It goes from 5-pm every Thursday night.

Bird Watch at the Sanctuary

The estuary is probably best done with a tour in our opinion. You can walk some beautiful paths full of butterflies and birds. If you’re a birder, it’s a must-visit. It may not be the most exciting thing for many, but if you’re a nature lover it’s a good way to spend an afternoon.

Go Whale Watching

You probably already know about the whales if you’re headed to or thinking of heading to Cabo. It’s a seasonal activity, taking place in the winter and early spring. You can see some incredible humpback and gray whales up (fairly) close on a whale watching tour.

Get a Day Pass

This one can be a bit more expensive, but getting a day pass to a hotel is a great way to go. Many of them have waterslides and water parks for the kids! There are many, but the Hard Rock is a great way to go. They have more than enough in their waterpark to keep our kids busy all day long.

Free Things to Do in Cabo with Kids

Nothing is truly free with kids. I say free in this section because there’s no entry fee or ticket price. You’ll have to get a taxi to these locations, and if your kids are like ours they will certainly ask for things every step of the way!

Swim at Playa Empacadora

Playa Empacadora is located just on the outside of the Marina. As it’s super protected by the point (the cape), there are calm waters to be found. It’s a great place to swim with kids and little ones as there isn’t much current and you won’t find big powerful waves coming through.

Walk the Marina

While you’re there, you can walk around the marina! You’ll find sea lions, plenty of different boats to look at, and some artisans selling their goods. We like this best at sunset, as it’s quite beautiful.

Play in the Cultural Plaza

This may be very Mexican, but one of our kids’ favorite things to do is simply go play in the plaza. They do it here in Playa del Carmen where we live, and love doing it anywhere we go. You’ll often find food and art vendors set up, as well as music performances and plenty of other little kids running around.
