Iztapa
Iztapa is one of several spots along the Guatemalan Pacific coast that has solid waves. Definitely better in the summer months (bigger swells and lower wind), there is a jetty and opening to the sea that produces a solid right point here. It’s better for intermediate surfers, but inside the channel you’ll find some of the best beginner waves around. The channel creates a constant flow of 2-3 foot green waves and white wash on the inside. The only downside is the channel is rocky on the sides, so have to make sure to stay toward the middle.
El Paredón
El Paredón is just a few miles northwest of Iztapa, about an hour away. You will also want to surf this spot in the summer in general, but are likely to find learner waves all year round. There’s rarely a crowd here, and less rocks than you’ll find in nearby Iztapa. Also, there are several surf schools and classes available right on the beach in El Paredón.
Sipicate
Sipicate is just northwest of El Paredón. During the summer months, the waves here can absolutely pump. But you will find smaller green waves and whitewash year round in Sipicate. There is a spot by the lagoon with more powerful waves, so we recommend beginner surfers steer clear of this area.
